Shree Shree Govindajee Temple- Imphal, Manipur



The Shree Shree Govindajee temple constructed in the year 1846, was built in the reign of the Manipur ruler, Maharaja Nara Singh.It is an important place of worship for the Vaishnavites. It is located in Imphal, adjoining the old palace of Manipur.




Shree Govindaji Temple, as the name suggests is dedicated to the Lord Krishna, also known as Govinda.



 The temple also has idols of Lord Krishna, his consort Radha and images of Lord Jagathnath, another form of Vishnu.


The famous Ras Leela dance is performed in the premise of this temple on certain occasions like the Buddha Poornima.


During Holi, the statues of Lord Krishna and Radha are taken out of the inner sanctum to be surrounded by Gopis playing with pitchkari and colours.
