the Imphal war cemetry

The Imphal war cemetery

The Imphal war cemetery preserves 1,600 burials of British soldiers who lost their lives in the Second World war while fighting agaisnt Japanese forces in Manipur.
The cemetry is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Initially, the cemetery housed the graves of 950 soldiers.

The administrative authorities of the cemetery brought in the graves of the soldiers placed in two other cemeteries of Imphal thereby increasing the total number to 1,600.

The stone tombstones bear the epitaph that recounts the lives of the soldiers and their bravery in death. Some of these accounts are engraved on bronze plaques.

All I ask of you is that you will remember me at the altar of the Lord.

Unknown unto God.
A loving husband and true friend, constant thought for others to the end.
